Once a common way to memorialize lost loved ones, post-mortem photography offered grieving families a final keepsake in an era of high infant mortality and limited access to portraiture. The child is dressed in traditional mourning white and posed as if peacefully asleep—a reminder of how deeply death and remembrance were woven into daily life.
